TRADE EXPO BOUNCES BACK

MOTORCYCLE Trade EXPO bounced back after taking a weather-related hit in 2013, with this year’s visitor numbers up almost 30 per cent.

The leading trade show in Europe, held at the NEC in Birmingham, attracted 180 exhibitors over the three days – 19, 20 and 21 January.

There was an air of optimism on the stands, with some exhibitors claiming to do have done record business in the run up to this year’s season.

Apart from the chance for dealers and suppliers to meet and do business face to face, one of the main attractions was the guest appearance of MotoGP star Scott Redding and ex-racer and commentator Steve Parrish.

Redding mingled with the crowds, attended the stand of his main sponsor, Alpinestars, and gave a revealing interview to Parrish in which he showed he’s well prepared for the demands of competing in the world’s most challenging race series. Cal Crutchlow watch out.

As well as the trade stands, on which many exhibitors were offering special show-only deals, attractions included the Electric Zone alternative-powered bike test area, the Knowledge Shop, and a display of modern and classic motorcycles, from a Scott Squirrell and a 1939 Levis, lent by the nearby National Motorcycle Museum, to a modern Chinese scooter.

A muscular Krazy Horse custom v-twin, Buell-powered Spud by Mac Motorcycles, and a limited-edition Steve McQueen replica Triumph-powered Metisse off-roader attracted a lot of attention of the British Dealer News stand.

There will also be a detailed report on the British Dealer News Industry Awards night, hosted by Steve Parrish, with a full list of winners.
