JOB: Motorcycle Sales Executive

Motorcycle Sales Executive

British Dealer News is the best place for motorcycle industry news
SoManyBikes are recruiting

 CONTACT DETAILS: recruitment@somanybikes.com

We are looking to recruit a number of Sales Executives to bolster our current team. It's probably a bit obvious but the role involves being a salesman of used motorcycles and motorcycle finance.

We are a rapidly growing independent bike dealer, (one of UK's the largest I might add!) we would like outgoing and friendly people to join our tightly knit family.

This is the perfect career for those of you interested in motorbikes (or mills!) as you will be joining the team in our Manchester showroom, based inside a classic Northern cotton mill, which has over £1,000,000 of motorcycling goodness spread across 10,000ft2. And this will be your office...

Whether you have past experience or not, it does not matter, we will provide you with all the necessary training to make you a top-notch motorcycle salesperson. We do however appreciate the skill set necessary for this role so previous experience would be advantageous. There's no need to worry, you won't be sitting around twiddling your thumbs! There are customers to greet, people to ring, and test rides to organise. This is just a small variety of the tasks at hand.

We offer uncapped earnings to our sales members with average yearly salaries hitting between £25,000 and £35,000. There is however nothing here stopping you, if you happen to be a bike selling god, from achieving £45,000+! All we ask from you is that you have a positive and polite attitude, good communication skills, some computer literacy and the ability to work happily within a team.

If you are interested just E-mail your CV and covering letter to recruitment@somanybikes.com

We look forward to hearing from you!

NEWS: Museum celebrations boost footfall by 40 per cent

Footfall at the National Motorcycle Museum has risen 40 per cent after a series of events to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

British Dealer News is the best for motorcycle industry news
National Motorcycle Museum open day

The climax came on Saturday, 1 November, with the “Museum Live” open day. The milestone event saw thousands of visitors join the museum in marking its heritage and successes since first opening its doors in October 1984.

The open day included a range of free attractions and family-friendly activities, featuring free museum entry, indoor trade displays, autojumble, wheelie machine and even the chance to “try a bike” in a controlled off-road area.

Highlights of the day included ex-GP rider and television commentator Steve Parrish who conducted chat-show-style interviews, and live race machine ‘start ups’ in a special “stars on stage” feature.

The day culminated with TT superstar John McGuinness drawing the winning ticket to win a Vincent Rapide motorcycle worth £40,000 in the museum’s anniversary raffle prize draw.

Museum director James Hewing said: “We are very proud to be celebrating our 30th anniversary. Museum Live was a fantastic way for us to say thank you to the public for their support over the years and we are pleased to have been able to celebrate our achievements with everyone. We’re looking forward to the next 30 years!”

Museum Live followed a year’s celebrations which saw the venue host an installation of a pop-up art gallery and stage a photographic competition.

Photographic competition results are:

2nd Prize: VIP Museum entry/tour & lunch for five-Mr Anthony Jinks- “Goldstar”.

NEWS: MCN launches Save Our Roads Petition

MCN is launching a Save Our Roads petition today to encourage the Government to implement a proper plan to improve them.

British Dealer News is the best place for motorcycle industry news

MCN claims:

• The Government raises £33bn through tax on petrol each year, yet none of this revenue is allocated to road maintenance.

• 18 per cent of Britain’s roads are classed as being in poor condition.

• 70 per cent of people are dissatisfied with the state of UK roads.

MCN points out that the road network is Britain’s most valuable asset (Action For Roads report, DfT 2013), yet we currently spend less than one per cent of its asset value maintaining it.

MCN has a three-point plan:

1. 2p from the 57.95p that the Government takes from every litre of fuel should go to preventative road maintenance. This guaranteed income of around £1bn would allow highways authorities to plan maintenance properly.

2. The Government’s Code of Practice for road maintenance should be rewritten for 21st-century traffic conditions and budget constraints.

3. All road authorities should have a competent Asset Management Plan, forcing them to think long-term about road maintenance.

The MCN Save Our Roads Petition encourages motorcyclists to send out a message to the Government that it can no longer ignore the danger to motorcyclists caused by potholes and deteriorating road surfaces.

The petition can be found at www.motorcyclenews.com/saveourroads

Machines from the Dark Side...

Yamaha’s Dark Side tour heads for Motorcycle Live

Following a hectic five-city UK tour during the summer of 2014, Yamaha’s Dark Side MT Tour has added one final venue to its schedule - Motorcycle Live at the NEC.

Motorcycle Live - discover the Dark Side

The MT Tour has already provided an opportunity for riders across the country to experience the new range of Yamaha MT bikes and discover their ‘Dark Side’ by trying out an MT for themselves. The summer events included stunt shows, an Extreme Wheelie machine and a new-rider MT experience with both an MT-125 and restricted A2 compliant MT-07 machine available with fully trained instructors.

The giant MT Tour truck will take centre stage for the MT Tour display with its Dark Side branding and collection of MT clothing and accessories. Sited inside Hall 3 right next to the Yamaha stand, the MT Tour truck will have many of the accessorised MT Tour bikes on show, along with the Dave Coates MT-09 stunt bike which comes to the event straight from its last show.

The new 2015 MT models and colours will be displayed on the Yamaha stand next to the MT Tour truck.

NEWS: RC30 goes under the hammer

Considered to be one of the greatest motorcycles ever built, a 1989 Honda VFR 750 RC30 will be going under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions’ sale at the Classic Motorbike Show at the NEC, Birmingham, on 15 and 16 November.

British Dealer News is the best for motorcycle industry news
RC30 up for auction

Designed by Honda to their exact racing specification, only minimal road going parts were added when it was sold to the public. Raced by some of the best riders of all time, between 1987 and 1990 it proved unbeatable in the hands of Fred Merkel, Joey Dunlop, Carl Fogarty, Nick Jefferies and many more. An incredibly competitive bike, the first two World Superbike Championships were won by RC30s.

This particular example, estimated at between £20,000 and £24,000, has had just one owner since 2007 and is in very good condition. The engine and frame numbers are correct and the odometer shows a reading of less than 12,000km.

Speaking on the sale of the historic motorbike, Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “Very rarely do these fantastic bikes leave the care of their current owners and so this represents a rare and almost unique opportunity to add one of these special machines to a collection.”

The motorcycle joins seven other bikes on offer at the show including a freshly restored 1954 BSA Gold Star, estimated at between £12,000 and £14,000, a rare 1982 Honda CX500 Turbo, estimated at between £5000 and £7000, and a 1967 Greeves Silverstone RES, estimated at between £4000 and £5000.

News: Motocross on the school curriculum?

Parents who would like their kids to enjoy motocross as part of the school curriculum in England and Wales should act now.

British Dealer News is the best for motorcycle industry news

They have until 30 October to register their interest through their children’s school.
The opportunity arises thanks to the determination of off-road motorcycle instructor Simon Newell.

He has spent the last two and half years lobbying the exam board Edexcel, the Department of Education and Ofqual – the Office of Qualifications and Examinations - to overturn what he describes as “their blanket ban on motorsports”. The subject had not been included in the GCSE PE list.

Newell, who runs Chiltern Young Riders and is one of four Kawasaki off-road experience providers, said: “I overturned the ban last Christmas and it has taken nine months to write and rewrite the criteria for MX teaching to be accepted.

“Everyone says that no-one is doing anything proactive to introduce biking to new riders. Well this is the biggest opportunity for ages.

“Mothers, the natural enemy of motorbikes, will hopefully see the activity as a little more credible and acceptable now it is available under PE subjects.”

Newell added: “The position is kids need to ask their schools to send in an application form MLN1 before 30 October for it to be assessed next year.

“Some could miss out and no doubt there will be some resistance from PE teachers because it’s bikes.”

Chiltern Young Riders has provided motocross training for more than 14,000 kids in Hertfordshire since 1989. It says it gives the opportunity for people upwards of four years old to experience the thrills of off- road bikes in a safe, controlled and caring environment.

“We seek to blend fun and excitement whilst instilling consideration for other children and a healthy respect for the bikes they ride,” its website says.

NEWS: Suzuki confirms return to MotoGP

British Dealer News is the best place for motorcycle industry news
Suzuki: Back in MotoGP

Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced that it will participate in the MotoGP class of the world’s top motorcycle racing series, the FIM*1 Road Racing Grand Prix (MotoGP), from 2015, at the press conference of the INTERMOT International Motorcycle, Scooter and Bicycle Fair held in Cologne, Germany.

With the development of the MotoGP machine and team structure prepared, Suzuki has decided to participate in the MotoGP series from 2015, and announced its newly-developed MotoGP machine, the GSX-RR, team riders, and team structure. Also, prior to its participation, Suzuki will make a wildcard appearance at this season’s final race, the Valencia GP.

Suzuki had temporarily suspended its participation in MotoGP from 2012, but has been continuing with the machine development toward its return. Through MotoGP racing, Suzuki will develop more attractive products by giving technical feedback to the products, and improve the brand image.

The development of the GSX-RR was started in 2012 with the aim to achieve high performance in the MotoGP class, as well as to give technology feedback to production models such as the GSX-R range.

It utilises a newly-developed in-line four-cylinder engine that realizes a strong, flexible engine character, fuel efficiency, and durability at a high level.

The frame has a layout that keeps its width slim for both maneuverability and aerodynamic performances, and optimizes body strength and weight balance.

The aim was to develop a highly competitive MotoGP machine that can bring out the straightforward maneuverability developed over the years with the GSX-R.

Lorenzo: Huge turnout too see him in Lancashire

Lorenzo's visit to the Rocket Centre, Lancashire’s largest motorcycle dealership, was part of Alpinestars’ ‘Race Experience’, which is designed to showcase the company’s cutting-edge race technology used in MotoGP and World Superbikes and provide fans with a rare opportunity to get close to their heroes.

Arriving at 11:30am, Lorenzo took the time to meet and greet the many fans, signing posters and giving photo opportunities, as well as looking at the Alpinestars product displays in the store.

Jorge told the crowd that he was looking forward to next weekend’s MotoGP of San Marino in Misano, a track in which he has won every premier grand prix since 2011. “In racing you never know what is going to happen. In the last few races at Misano we have won, but we have to keep our feet on the ground, work hard all weekend, work hard on the bike and give it the maximum during the race!”

The circuit has set aside five days in 2015 after the success of a pilot dealer driving event, held by a car manufacturer.

The legendary Leicestershire motor race circuit - acquired and re-launched by new owners - has trackside and hospitality suites and facilities for up to 200 people.

New joint owner Eddie Roberts explained: "The circuit is short and easy to learn, and facilities are compact - meaning that, unlike some of the big Grand Prix circuits, the circuit is easier to 'own' on the day, rather than feeling you're rattling around something big and impersonal.

“We have conference facilities to cater for anything from an exclusive boardroom scenario in the race control building through to theatre-style for up to 200, or 110 for a sit-down lunch or dinner in the Hailwood Suite. Parking, of course, is not an issue, and we have preferential price arrangements with local hotels."

NEWS: TT trophies stolen in National Museum break-in

Thieves have broken into the National Motorcycle Museum and stolen a large number of trophies and TT replicas. The museum is offering a reward for information leading to their return.

British Dealer News brings you the best motorcycle industry news
Trophies stolen from the National Motorcycle Museum

The break-in occurred at around 11pm yesterday (27 August).

All the trophy cabinets in the inner foyer were smashed, causing substantial damage to the displays. Many of the trophies and TT replicas have little “scrap” value but are unique and irreplaceable as part of this country's motorcycling heritage.

Because of the historical importance of these trophies the museum will be offering a substantial award of £20,000 for information which leads to the safe recovery of these important artefacts.

Anyone with any relevant information is asked to contact West Midlands Police or the National Motorcycle Museum on 01675 443311 or e-mail Museum Director James Hewing james@thenmm.co.uk

The museum has re-opened as normal this morning.

NEWS: Savatech in tyre recall

British Dealer News is the best for motorcycle industry news
Savatech- tyre recall

The Slovenian tyre producer Savatech is voluntarily recalling Sport Force radial motorcycle tyres from the market. These tyres were sold to customers mostly in Europe. The tyre sizes subject to recall are,

120/70 ZR17 (58W) TL SPORTFORCE MI

150/60 ZR17 (66W) TL SPORTFORCE MI

160/60 ZR17 (69W) TL SPORTFORCE MI

180/55 ZR17 (73W) TL SPORTFORCE MI

190/50 ZR17 (73W) TL SPORTFORCE MI

The company has discovered that during sustained high speed riding a bulge may appear on the tread of the tyre causing vibration and in the most extreme of cases some of the tread may become detached. "This problem has only been simulated in controlled and the most severe of conditions. The Sport Force recall is pre-emptive," Savatech said.

Customers and suppliers can determine whether their tyre is subject to recall by checking the brand name “MITAS”, tyre name “Sport Force,” inscription “tubeless” and DOT* codes from 0114 to 2614, on the tyre sidewall. No other tyres are affected. The recalled tyres were made in Slovenia.

The recall follows a quarantine of stocks at tyre dealers. The improved Sport Force tyres will be made available at the shortest possible term.

JAWA SPORTARD FOR UK

British Dealer News is the best place for motorcycle industry news
Jawa Sportard 660 set for the UK

Jawa importer F2 Motorcycles has launched the Sportard, a complete departure for the Czechs, who for decades have depended on sales of their venerable two-stroke twins. The Sportard (launched on its home market in 2010) is based around Yamaha XT660 engine and electrics, but with many other parts made in-house by Jawa, including the frame, wheels, silencers, bodywork and even the brakes.

Although styled as supermoto, the Sportard is billed by F2 as an all-rounder, with options including hard luggage, a tall screen and Continental TKC 80 knobblies. Retail price is £6795, but F2 proprietor David Angel told BDN there are no plans to recruit dealers.

Suzuki Roadshow

Almost all of the Japanese manufacturer's on-road range will be available to test ride at both events, including the new V-Strom 1000 Adventure.

Dealer principal John Green commented: "The team at GS Motorcycles is delighted to able to offer our customers and other motorcyclists the opportunity to test ride such a wide selection of Suzuki models. We'll also have special offers on clothing and accessories and have some very enticing deals available too. We are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces as well as those less familiar, and hopefully the forecasters are right and we will have two enjoyable, safe, dry days of riding."

Meanwhile, BDN has recently visited the Republic of Ireland and over the coming months will be running features on four Dublin dealers starting in the September issue. We will also be interviewing the head of Honda Distributors (Two Wheels Ltd), part of RedCo Auto Holdings, which holds the concession for Honda in Eire.

Also in September, BDN will look at the potential financial implications of a Yes vote in Scotland. Anyone in the industry intending to vote for independence and willing to make the business case is invited to contact us at editorial@dealernews.co.uk

NEWS: Comedian Noble films latest off-the-wall travel show

Comedian Ross Noble is filming the second series of Freewheeling using the new KTM 1290 Super Duke R.

British Dealer News is the best place for motorcycle industry news
Ross Noble

The off-the-wall travel show sees the top comic touring the United Kingdom at the mercy of the tweets he gets from his 500,000+ followers on Twitter. The first series was shown on the Dave channel earlier this year and saw Ross in a multitude of bizarre situations that made for compelling viewing and proved to be hugely popular.

Having completed the first series riding a touring bike, Ross was looking for something quite different and very overstated to continue the theme as an alternative travel show. Seeing the 180hp 1290 Super Duke R at Motorcycle Live in 2013 soon made the decision for Ross, who already has a soft spot for the Austrian brand as he competes in Enduro events on his own KTM 350 EXC-F.

Commenting on his new series, scheduled to be aired this coming winter, Ross Noble said: "What is Freewheeling? Well, people tweet me and I will travel to anywhere in the country to make the show - the more bizarre tweets the better. Last series I used more of a touring bike but this time I am using the 1290 Super Duke R, so we should be able to get everything done in half the time."

Ross Noble will be touring in September and October, visit www.rossnoble.co.uk for dates and venues.
