Trophies stolen from the National Motorcycle Museum

The break-in occurred at around 11pm yesterday (27 August).

All the trophy cabinets in the inner foyer were smashed, causing substantial damage to the displays. Many of the trophies and TT replicas have little “scrap” value but are unique and irreplaceable as part of this country's motorcycling heritage.

Because of the historical importance of these trophies the museum will be offering a substantial award of £20,000 for information which leads to the safe recovery of these important artefacts.

Anyone with any relevant information is asked to contact West Midlands Police or the National Motorcycle Museum on 01675 443311 or e-mail Museum Director James Hewing james@thenmm.co.uk

The museum has re-opened as normal this morning.

NEWS: Savatech in tyre recall

British Dealer News is the best for motorcycle industry news
Savatech- tyre recall

The Slovenian tyre producer Savatech is voluntarily recalling Sport Force radial motorcycle tyres from the market. These tyres were sold to customers mostly in Europe. The tyre sizes subject to recall are,

120/70 ZR17 (58W) TL SPORTFORCE MI

150/60 ZR17 (66W) TL SPORTFORCE MI

160/60 ZR17 (69W) TL SPORTFORCE MI

180/55 ZR17 (73W) TL SPORTFORCE MI

190/50 ZR17 (73W) TL SPORTFORCE MI

The company has discovered that during sustained high speed riding a bulge may appear on the tread of the tyre causing vibration and in the most extreme of cases some of the tread may become detached. "This problem has only been simulated in controlled and the most severe of conditions. The Sport Force recall is pre-emptive," Savatech said.

Customers and suppliers can determine whether their tyre is subject to recall by checking the brand name “MITAS”, tyre name “Sport Force,” inscription “tubeless” and DOT* codes from 0114 to 2614, on the tyre sidewall. No other tyres are affected. The recalled tyres were made in Slovenia.

The recall follows a quarantine of stocks at tyre dealers. The improved Sport Force tyres will be made available at the shortest possible term.

NEWS: Jawa set for the UK

JAWA SPORTARD FOR UK

British Dealer News is the best place for motorcycle industry news
Jawa Sportard 660 set for the UK

Jawa importer F2 Motorcycles has launched the Sportard, a complete departure for the Czechs, who for decades have depended on sales of their venerable two-stroke twins. The Sportard (launched on its home market in 2010) is based around Yamaha XT660 engine and electrics, but with many other parts made in-house by Jawa, including the frame, wheels, silencers, bodywork and even the brakes.

Although styled as supermoto, the Sportard is billed by F2 as an all-rounder, with options including hard luggage, a tall screen and Continental TKC 80 knobblies. Retail price is £6795, but F2 proprietor David Angel told BDN there are no plans to recruit dealers.
