NEWS: Suzuki 2016 range on show this weekend at BikeSafe

SUZUKI ON SHOW AT BIKESAFE

British Dealer News is the best place for motorcycle industry news

Suzuki GB will be supporting this year’s National BikeSafe show, which takes place at Rockingham circuit in Corby on Saturday 16 July, with its fleet of 2016 demo machines.

The new SV650, launched earlier in the year, will be available to test ride, along with the GSX-S1000 super-naked, the V-Strom 650XT and V-Strom 1000, Burgman 650 Executive luxury scooter, and the GSX-R1000.

Bennetts Suzuki’s British Superbike star, Tommy Bridewell, will also be in attendance on the Suzuki stand, and on hand to talk bikes and racing with visitors.

The annual BikeSafe show will also feature a Get On area for new riders, and displays from emergency services that utilise motorcycles in their day-to-day work, as well as advice and information on how to become a safer motorcyclist.

Get On, the motorcycle industry’s free ‘try out’ programme, is open to anyone aged 15 or over who wants to try a motorcycle or scooter for the first time, or who wants to get back on a bike after a few years away and it’s free.

Riders will be offered a 30-minute session with a professional instructor, with all safety clothing provided, during which time they will be introduced to the gears, brakes, clutch and slow speed handling.

Steve Kenward, CEO of the Motorcycle Industry Association, which funds Get On says: “The national BikeSafe Show is a hugely varied event and one which attracts riders and their families from across the UK.  As it is only £1 to get into the show, it also attracts non-riders and once they experience the buzz around such an event, they often want to try a motorcycle themselves.  Seven-year-old stunt rider Lottie Trenchard will be showcasing her skills and seeing someone so competent at such a young age always inspires people to want to get on a bike.”

NEWS: Subsidised Motorcycle rider skills workshop places available

Thanks to a grant from the Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner, the British Motor Museum is able to offer subsidized places on its forth coming Motorcycles Rider Skills Workshops. The grant has enabled the Museum to subsidise each place by £40, so from £90 to £50 per rider, with the next workshops running on 30 July, 13 August and 27 August.

The workshops are designed to make motorcycle riding safer and more enjoyable. They are run by ex-police instructors and advanced police riders as well as senior observers from both RoSPA and IAM, all of whom were previously involved in the Warwickshire Polices BikeSafe initiative. The workshops explore the main riding hazards that bikers face, helping improve riders skills, knowledge and hazard awareness.

The workshops include both classroom and open road sessions, covering observations, hazard perception, anticipation and planning, cornering and overtaking. Riders will also have their riding assessed out on the open road. In addition to this, lunch and free entry to the British Motor Museum is also included within the £50 workshop fee.

Neil Colledge, Workshop Instructor from the British Motor Museum and former head of the Warwickshire BikeSafe initiative said “This grant shows how seriously the risk to bikers is taken. Each year hundreds of motorcyclists are killed or seriously injured on our roads. Our workshops are run by bikers, for bikers! They are about learning to assess your riding strengths and weakness, allowing you to improve your riding skills and enable you to get the most out of your machines in a safe and responsible way”.

For more information about the motorcycle rider skills workshops please visit www.britishmotormuseum.co.uk or call 01926 645056.
