Fogarty thrills in title celebration at Donington

Carl Fogarty, the most successful Superbike racer of all time, with 59 victories and four world titles, took to the Donington Park track over the weekend to mark the 20th anniversary of the first of his four World Superbike championships.

"Foggy" rode the Leicestershire track over the thrilling race weekend lapping on a specially painted Ducati 988 - the same livery as his famous 916 from 1994.

Dainese, his long-term, leathers, boots and gloves supplier made him a special suit to mark the occasion. The 48-year-old from Blackburn enjoyed entertaining the crowds at the UK's sole round of the FIM World Superbike championship.

Carl Fogarty commented: "It was a great weekend and fantastic to be back on a bike I love at a track that means so much to me in front of fans who gave me such great support over the years, and showed so much appreciation yesterday.

He continued: "I have always wanted to work with the best and the partnership I've had with Dainese continues today. They were class leading when I was riding and they still are today."

It was fitting that the fifth round of the championship saw a double win from reigning World Superbike Champion and Dainese-protected, Tom Sykes. The British rider now heads the championship by 26 points.

NEWS: BUELL CONTESTING THE TT

Buell’s EBR1190R goes for TT glory

British Dealer News brings you the best motorcycle industry news
Buell aiming for TT win

British racing team Splitlath Motorsports will be contesting the Isle of Man TT with the all-new, American-made EBR1190RS from manufacturer Erik Buell Racing – and American riders.

This will be the first time that the EBR’s have raced on the TT Mountain Course. Splitlath riders will be Mark Miller and Brandon Cretu, both experienced TT riders. The decision to run the EBR1190RS comes after a successful outing with both Miller and Cretu at the 2013 Macau Grand Prix, where they finished 11th and 20th respectively.  This represented a significant improvement for both riders in finishing positions and lap times compared with recent years, which proved the bike’s pedigree to Splitlath Motorsports team owner John Dimbylow.

Both riders will race the Rotax-powered V-twin in the Dainese Superbike, RL 360 Superstock, and PokerStars Senior TT races.

This will be Mark Millers's fourth consecutive year riding for the Splitlath outfit on the island.  He has the distinction of being the fastest American in the history of the event with a lap of 125.507mph.  He also won the 2010 TT Zero Race for clean emissions motorcycles.

Brandon Cretu has recorded a fastest lap of 117.8mph around the TT course, which he achieved last year and is looking to significantly improve on that time in 2014.
