NEWS: Buddy Holly's bike up for grabs

Buddy Holly's Ariel at auction

British Dealer News is the best place for motorcycle industry news

Fancy yourself on Buddy Holly's 1958 650 Ariel Cyclone British twin? That'll be the day! But it could be yours. To buy it, get yourself to the Guernsey's auction on Sunday 5 October at the Musical Instrument Museum, Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

The sale is dedicated to that late Waylon Jennings (1937-2002) who was given the bike in 1979. Jennings was a member of Holly's backing group, The Crickets.

Guernsey's say the machine has done only 4000 miles and is in fine condition, though not run for 20 years.

No estimate is listed at this stage. We note that the seat and silencers have been changed since the home movie footage showing Holly with the bike in 1958.

Holly (1936-1959) bought the red and black Ariel new from Ray Miller's Motorcycles, Dallas, Texas. Only 200 were made. Auction details: 001 212 794 2280 www.guernseys.com

Do you want to work for an exciting, market-leading and innovative motorcycle accessory brand?

To support rapid growth, R&G is now looking to recruit the following new staff:

DESIGN ENGINEER, to bolster our busy Prototyping Department.  Bringing new ideas, continuing and enhancing our existing development, you will need plenty of demonstrable, relevant experience in the automotive industry in order to take on this rewarding role.  The best candidates will also have 3D scanning, CAD design and CNC machining experience.  Some UK and international travel and very occasional weekend/evening work will be involved.

EXPORT COORDINATOR, carrying out day-to-day administration and sales duties.  To ensure our continued international success, we need to expand our Export Department further, and therefore require a first-class administrator, with fantastic communication skills, both written and verbal.  A working knowledge of any foreign languages would obviously be helpful.  Experience in the motorcycle industry would be advantageous, but the most important attributes are the ability to learn, forge relationships, multi-task and develop the business, by taking an active interest in what we do.

PROJECT MANAGER.  R&G is never short of ideas but there are not enough hours in the day, and so we are looking for a self-motivated and successful automotive industry professional, who can use our supplier base and develop new contacts in order to take the Company forward, managing current and new projects in vertical and horizontal markets, from start to finish, and involving brand new products and development/improvement of existing lines.  Some UK and international travel will be involved.

PURCHASING & MARKETING ASSISTANT
, to help with the day-to-day administration and development of information held on our internal systems and websites.  You will be maintaining the integrity of our systems with the latest data and photographs, maintaining our FTP site, liaising with colleagues and clients and arranging prompt translation of our literature with our dedicated team.   A keen eye for detail and an interest in motorcycles are essential for this role.  Photography and graphic design skills would be an advantage but are not essential.

News: Lorenzo mobbed by fans at Rocket Centre

Jorge Lorenzo made a hugely successful exclusive guest appearance at the Rocket Centre in Blackburn, Lancashire, on Saturday afternoon, with thousands of fans turning out to meet and greet the two-time MotoGP World Champion.

Lorenzo: Huge turnout too see him in Lancashire

Lorenzo's visit to the Rocket Centre, Lancashire’s largest motorcycle dealership, was part of Alpinestars’ ‘Race Experience’, which is designed to showcase the company’s cutting-edge race technology used in MotoGP and World Superbikes and provide fans with a rare opportunity to get close to their heroes.

Arriving at 11:30am, Lorenzo took the time to meet and greet the many fans, signing posters and giving photo opportunities, as well as looking at the Alpinestars product displays in the store.

Jorge told the crowd that he was looking forward to next weekend’s MotoGP of San Marino in Misano, a track in which he has won every premier grand prix since 2011. “In racing you never know what is going to happen. In the last few races at Misano we have won, but we have to keep our feet on the ground, work hard all weekend, work hard on the bike and give it the maximum during the race!”

Big crowds to see Lorenzo at the Rocket Centre

Owing to the large volume of signing requests, the Movistar Yamaha man delayed his departure in order not to disappoint the amassed fans. He eventually left the Rocket Centre at 1:35pm to take a flight to Jerez, from where he will head home to Spain to begin his preparations for San Marino on 12 to 14 September.

NEWS: Mallory Park competes for corporate entertainment

Mallory Park race circuit is promoting its facilities for corporate events.

British dealer news is the best place for motorcycle industry news
Mallory Park- available for corporate events

The circuit has set aside five days in 2015 after the success of a pilot dealer driving event, held by a car manufacturer.

The legendary Leicestershire motor race circuit - acquired and re-launched by new owners - has trackside and hospitality suites and facilities for up to 200 people.

New joint owner Eddie Roberts explained: "The circuit is short and easy to learn, and facilities are compact - meaning that, unlike some of the big Grand Prix circuits, the circuit is easier to 'own' on the day, rather than feeling you're rattling around something big and impersonal.

“We have conference facilities to cater for anything from an exclusive boardroom scenario in the race control building through to theatre-style for up to 200, or 110 for a sit-down lunch or dinner in the Hailwood Suite. Parking, of course, is not an issue, and we have preferential price arrangements with local hotels."
