Horex- are back |
Horex, a historic German bike marque which was folded in 1960 by then-owner Daimler, had been relaunched in 2010. But it subsequently filed for bankruptcy protection last autumn and then closed down altogether shortly afterwards. Its assets, including tooling, parts and intellectual property, were auctioned off by court-appointed insolvency administrator Rainer Müller in February this year.
The successful bidder was 3C-Carbon Group, a rapidly expanding carbon-fibre composites manufacturer serving the automotive, mechanical engineering, medical technology and aerospace industries. It has factories at Landsberg am Lech and Baden-Württemberg in Germany plus a facility in Switzerland.
Following the acquisition, a 3C-Carbon statement said: “In order to lead the Horex brand to a new bout of glory, essential optimisations are going to be required from a technical and organisational perspective. The goal is to devise a marketable concept in order to get new clientele enthusiastic about Horex.”
Undoubtedly equipped with the resources and finance to make this a realistic commercial proposition, 3C-Carbon also has a substantial track record in motorcycle sports. It owns and operates the 3C-Racing team fielding Ducati-mounted Xavi Forés and Lorenzo Lanzi in the IDM German Superbike Championship. Forés and his Panigale won last year’s series and the squad are already front-runners in 2015.
